View Full Version : Oh my poor sister
Luna

My sister has been trying to lose weight and not succeeding (I believe
because she underestimates how much she eats and overestimates how hard she
works out, but anyway) and she went to her doctor about it. Her doctor put
her on some kind of diet pills and a 1000 calorie a day, low-fat diet. She
has a meal planner that she's supposed to follow, but she's calling her
doctor every day saying "I don't eat such and such. What can I have
instead?" Anyway, I hope this works for her, but I wonder what will happen
when she goes off the diet.

She won't try it, even though I've lost weight on it. She says "Every once
in a while my body tells me it needs bread, and I have to listen to what my
body tells me." She'll listen to her doctor instead of listening to her
body, but not to me. I think it's because she doesn't want the "i told you
so" from me if she did lose on low-carb.

The doctor's answer should be "ya do now" :-) Or else charge
for a consultation.....
It won't work -- even if she sticks with it, she'll never keep it
off when she goes back to her old ways. (Hopefully not but
the writing is on the wall).
Wish her luck... BJ

maybe you should try telling her that she *can* have bread every once in
a while and still eat low carb.

You could also tell her that her body doesn't necessarily know more
than her brain.

What a good point! If our bodies did know more, we would all have
been in great shape all along.

Yeah, I've told her that, she says she's different because she is more in
tune with her body and its needs than the average person. She also thinks
she is psychic. I love my sister, but she's a bit odd.

Perhaps she could "channel" Dr. Atkins for a consultation. <g>

Then get her to look into the future....she'll see you all fab (and getting
dates) because you lost the weight and there she'll be fatter than ever
because of that 1000 kcal per day pill-diet her doc gave her.

Um, if she is so in tune with her body, why is she in such bad
shape?

Well, for a while she thought she had a thyroid problem. She was all
"SOMETHING is wrong with my body, I can sense it." And then when that
turned out not to be the case, she started thinking it was bad karma from
how she'd treated some people in her past. So she's resigned to doing the
diet her doctor said, even though it's very strict, because she thinks the
deprivation will help her atone.

Tell her that listening to her body is what made her overweight in the
first place..She should therefore listen to something else, i.e. you.
