Just saw the new commercial for subway's
new "Atkins freindly" wraps - 11 grams of
carbs per sandwich! Yes!

Now I can go out to eat, get good food &
not have to inject insulin before a meal!

Thanks, Subway......

I had one of these last night for dinner... very yummy. I was
impressed that it tastes as good as it does.

Was really fun too because my wrap was the first one that the sandwich
artists had made.

Not if you paid me. I have a problem with what passes for salad
dressing there. 15 carbs for a "low fat" ranch dressing!?!

Take some good olive oil with you in a jar. I do this all the time.

All lowfat dressings are like that. Remove the fat, and all you have
left for flavor is sugar. Go for the regular full fat dressing instead
and even with added sugar you have a much lower carb count-- or bring
your own.

I do, I support In-Out-Burger, a true low carb alternative. I support
my local Del Taco for leaving the tortilla off my beef burritos, and
tacos when I ask them to. I support Outback for their steamed veggie
alterative to potatoes. I support my local Denny's for having the
good sense to leave the bread in the kitchen when I ask for their
chicken breast salad. I support the Buffet at Viejas (it would be
nice if they had a low carb dessert, too). I support most of the
independent local eateries that have low carb menus, especially the
ones that don't charge an arm and a leg for the priviledge of eating
there.

I don't support Subway. Partly because of the way I was treated the
last time I was in one, partly because of the tiny amount of meat and
cheese I received in my salad, but mostly for their appalling approach
to salad dressing (all they had were low fat dressings the last time I
went in). Frankly, I felt cheated, and won't darken their doors again
unless they mend their ways, period. And from the complaints of other
people here, I'm not the only one who feels that way.

As far as I'm concerned Subway supporting *any* WOE is a joke. And a
pathetic one at that. I won't blindly go along with the crowd, and
support an establishment just because they now sport a low carb menu.
They also have to have quality service, and decent portions too.

My daughter worked at a Subway for a year when she was in High School. This
is what she told me:

Subways franchise are individually owned, and though the menus are
controlled, the actual food you find in a specific restaurant has a lot to
do with where the owner decides to purchase meats and condiments.

The two franchises within 4 miles of each other where we lived used cold
cuts purchased from two different suppliers. One was very good, the other
was disgusting. During the time she worked at her restaurant, the owner
changed suppliers. Though the original cold cuts they had were delicious,
the ones they switched to, which must have been cheaper to buy, were full of
gelatin and additives.

The portion sizes were different between the different Subway restaurants
too.

So this may explain why people posting here have had such differing
experiences with Subway foods.

I spoke with the manager of one of the Subways around here. He said there
is a agreement amongst the local subways to use the same suppliers, so that
customers are not confused by visiting different shops in the area and
getting something they don't expect. He said its also cheaper to buy in
bilk from oen supplier.

I have discovered that portion sizes can and do vary by location. There is
a place I used to eat at occassionally who fudged on the quantity of meat
every time when double meat was ordered. They gave me 3 slices of
pepperoni, 3 of salami, and 2 of ham when I ordered a regular BMT sald, but
when I ordered double meat they gave me 5, 5, and 3 respectively. I asked
about this the first time and the sandwich artist said this was indeed their
policy on double meat orderes. I always meant to contact subway and see if
this was allowed by the company but never did.

I have also found that there sub club practices vary by location as well.
Some do not seem to participate in it at all, others seem to have widely
varying rules about what cards they will accept for freebees. The ones
around here seem to accept cards with stamps from other shops on them, but a
fair number of shops won't accept cards with other shops stamps on them.

I'm allergic to wheat so I literally can't. It would send me on a
binge and give me all sorts of nasty symptoms.

But I've been eating their "any 6 inch sub as a salad" deal for
years. I had one over the weekend. Subway supporting low carb is
very old news to me. They were one of the leaders of low carb fast
food more years ago than their ads know.

On the salad dressing front, I go with oil and vinegar there. They
may slip in a carby low fat dressing, but there's no such thing as
carby low fat oil.

It figures, even with standardized food like KFC, some stores seem to be
better at cooking it than others and the service certainly varies. I only
went to Subway once in my life because I had seen them advertised. I
thought their buns were awful and so thick that they completely overshadowed
the contents. KMart used to have delis in the front of their stores and we
always liked their subs, their buns were much like long hot dog buns, just
enough to keep the stuffing under control. But the subs I like best are
Tubby's grilled subs, they are just in Michigan though I see two in Florida
on their website.

I have always been a kind of bread snob, made bread by hand when my kids
were young and didn't care much for run of the mill "store bought" bread,
especially smooshy white bread. In recent years I had been making bread in
a bread machine but actually quit some time before I started low carbing as
I suspected that wheat products were exacerbating my pain problems. I do
think every once in a white about my favorite, Henzi's Seed Bread, probably
impossible to convert to low carb.

HENZI’S SEED BREAD
1 package yeast
4 Tablespoons honey
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 egg
1 ˝ cups bread flour
1 ˝ cups whole wheat flour
2/3 cup rye flour
˝ cup cornmeal
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup golden raisins
1/3 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1/3 cup poppy seeds
2 Tablespoons caraway seeds
1 cups warm water
1/3 cup warm milk
1 Tablespoons oil

My skinny SO doesn't like bread so we never even have it around anymore.

yep. That's what I always get too. All of their dressings are very high
carbs most with a lot of sugar.

I always get parmesan cheese sprinkled on my salad.

An interesting finding in my area: the Subway closest to me started
serving the Atkins wraps two days earlier than advertised. They serve
the two varieties advertised (chicken and turkey), but I also noticed a
sign saying that they could make any of their subs on one of the LC
wraps. I noticed they also had a disclaimer that the Atkins wraps were
"not suitable for induction". (Whatcha wanna bet the New Years
resolutionaries will miss that part...).

OTOH, I was at a nearby mall tonight, that has a Subway in its food
court. They didn't have any LC wraps. Go figure.
