Madame and I are just back from a trip to the Cote d'Azur to celebrate our
40th. We rented a villa high on a hill about half a mile from the sea with
the most fabulous views from a huge terrace, and we forgot about diet and
exercise for a couple of weeks. I thought we'd eat out a lot, but actually
we only did so twice; it was so much fun to shop in the open markets for
bread and cheese, sausage, ham, roast chicken, olives, terrines and salad
and bring it all back to eat on the terrace. We actually did take a fair
amount of exercise exploring the little villages perched on the hills
overlooking the Mediterranean and the damage has not been bad; I put on 2.2
lbs and Jennifer added about 5. I think the best thing was the bread;
having had almost none for a couple of years, and to have all the varieties
that French bakers can produce in unlimited quantity was outstanding! Ah
well, back to the diet today and the gym tomorrow. We promised ourselves
another trip forty years from now.

What a wonderful vacation. I'm glad you had so much fun, and gained so
little weight.

And I'm perfectly charmed by your plans for your 80th anniversay. You must
love each other very much. :-)

Don't wait another 40 years...by then you will most likely be unable to walk
(if you are still around)! Enjoy it while you can. How about aiming for 10
years? Married 55 years myself.
