Hello, i'm new on this list.
We've decided to start the Atkins diet plan together. We have the book with
recipes but what I am looking for is a "weight-watcher" type weekly planner
(breakfast, lunch, dinner recipes for weeks, so it is all figured out for
me, and I dont need to reinvent the wheel...)

Does anyone know if this exisits anywhere? We livein europe so USA stores
aren't around the corner....

thanks
jopie

I haven't read it, but I've heard that the South Beach diet is more
recipe-oriented than is Atkins. That could be wrong, as you are likely to
hear anything.

When planning for weeks, remember that the dietary guidelines for the
induction period (the first two weeks or more) are more restrictive than
they are later in OWL. Furthermore, the dietary guidelines in OWL will
change week by week according to your personal tastes and needs.

I stayed on induction for three weeks. I would like to note that I didn't
see the 20 carb-per-day as a requirement, but rather a cap (i.e., no MORE
than 20 carbs per day). I currently view the 25 carbs per day for this week
similarly.

During my three weeks on induction, my diet was this (I personally am
something of a creature of habit, and rather enjoy having repetitive meals):

(1) During the first three weeks I drank bottled spring water, and nothing
but water, approximately a gallon a day.

(2) Breakfast: 2 egg cheese omelet, 2.2 carbs and 206 calories.
(3) Lunch: 2 cups of salad greens, 2 tablespoons of Ranch dressing, and a
can of tuna mixed together: 4.5 carbs, 300 calories.
(4) Afternoon snack (optional): usually half a tomato or half an avocado,
3.5 carbs and 18 calories or 2.4 carbs and 162 calories (I generally
preferred the avocado because of the higher fiber content).
(5) Supper: One cup salad greens and one tablespoon ranch dressing, plus
other things depending... a cup of broccoli or cauliflower, a meat and
veggie casserole, beef, chicken, fish, etc.

Average daily intake: 10-20 carbs, 1200-1500 calories. During the first
week of induction I actually gained two pounds, followed by a loss over the
next two weeks of 12 pounds, for a net loss of ten pounds over the three
week period.

At this point during my initiation into OWL I have added coffee in the
morning, plus either tomato, avocado, or strawberries in the evening for a
3-5 carb increase over my previous intake. Calories are roughly the same.

In spite of the variance in day-to-day intake, the variance did not appear
to have an effect on day-to-day weight change.

Hope this is informative in some way.

Oops! I meant that during the last two weeks I lost 14 pounds, for a net
loss of 12 pounds.

The problem is that would only last 14 days. After that OWL starts and
OWL is a process that is customized for your own individual body. No
one can say what you will be eating each week because it's a process
not a menu. So getting you into the habit of using a menu starts you
out in the wrong direction. Atkins is a process not a menu.

There are menu suggestions in the back of the book. If you don't see
them you don't have the right book. Doctor Atkins New Diet Revolution
editions 2002, 1999 or 1993. Doctor Atkins Diet Revolution edition 1972.

Atkins is *not* something you can make up on the fly. If you don't have
the book or if you haven't read most of atkins.com, there's no chance
you will actually be on Atkins if you make the attempt.
